Today at Hybridfest 2007, the nation’s largest hybrid car festival, 35 drivers competed in the second annual Hybridfest MPG Challenge, with the top drivers achieving 60 to 168 miles per gallon (MPG), over a 26-mile open course. Novice to expert hypermilers competed to achieve maximum fuel efficiency. Each driver’s goal was to achieve the best percentage over the EPA’s estimates for their vehicle, within their division. ... Hybrid Toyota Supra Wins Tokachi 24-Hour race

Toyota Team SARD's specially-prepared Supra HV-R hybrid GT racer has won the Tokachi 24-hour endurance race in Japan. The converted Super GT-spec racing car did so convincingly, too. As the only GT-class car in the field, the Denso SARD Supra HV-R maintained a steady lead of several laps throughout the course of the race, and in the later hours, it essentially dialed things up a notch and ran away from the rest of the field. ... At a ceremony last week at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, MI, General Motors won two awards for its recent concept vehicles. The Chevy Volt won in the category of best Specialty concept and also got the Most Significant Concept of the Year. The Holden Efijy won in the basic concept car of the year category. The Honda Civic Hybrid has taken the top award for the second year running at the ETA Car Buyers' Guide 2007 awards for the greenest car in Britain. The Civic took the overall award as well as the award in the Small Family Car category while Vauxhall scooped the supermini category with its Corsa 1.3 CDTi, as well as the overall runner-up spot. ... Toyota Camry Hybrid was declared the 2007 Canadian Car of the Year by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC), as Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto opens. Three gasoline-electric hybrids, the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic and Nissan Altima, are rated among the "greenest" cars of 2007 in the 10th annual "greenest" and "meanest" rankings released by the American Council for an Energy- Efficient Economy. A Honda Civic that runs on natural gas and has limited production was ranked number one. But two other cars in the top 10 — the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit — are among the fastest- selling new models of small, gas- powered vehicles from foreign automakers, according to the rankings released Monday. ... The hybrid-electric Toyota Prius leads the government's annual top-10 fuel-economy list of vehicles that can make living with high gas prices a little more tolerable.
